I don't see them going to arbitration with Verlander and being almost $3 mill difference between the two. Signing relief picher for 9 mill and offering 6 to Justin. I do understand not going into a long term deal but why the desparity?

I don't get this deal at all. I thought Detroit was freeing up money now to rebuild this team. The 19th pick should be valuable to this organization, which has a farm system void of any talented hitters and needs more talented pitchers, like Turner. Also, if your going to throw 15 million out for a so-so pitcher why not bid on Chapman (same cost per year) or Ben Sheets? Sheets is only 31, he's a solid ace when healthy and he would have jumped at a 4 year 20 million dollar deal. He'd be the other solid pitcher this front staff needs and in 4 years when his contract would end he could be just be swapped with Turner. This deal bugs me. What happened to giving Perry or Ni a chance?

Also, I don't care about a closer when this team will finish 20 games out of first. I'd rather be 25 games behind, give a young closer a chance, and invest this money into draft picks, high risk/high reward FA, or young international FA.
