There are a lot of arguments as to who's a better pitcher, but there is no argument that Lincecum won't get that kind of money unless you run Zito over with your Audi. Zito makes nearly $20mil / year for the next four years. As Jason Beck points out(http://beck.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/02/for_all_of_you_who.html), its tough enough to carry two players with those contracts on your payroll. While Detroit does it with Verlander and Cabrera, it would be suicide to do that on your pitching staff.

The Giants are in a tough spot. Lincecum probably has to take a smaller deal (though maybe six years?) in order to protect himself against injury, or he'll be year to year through the 2013 season. All 110 pounds of him.

How do you see this and the Hernandez contract affecting the Lincecum negotiations in San Francisco? Timmy is 1 year shy of Verlander and two years older than Hernandez. Two Cy Youngs through two full seasons, opp BAA of .219, 676 K, and an ERA of 2.90 over 598+ innings leads me to think he is worth:

2010: $10 million
2011: $14.5 million
2012: $21 million
2013: $22 million
2014: $23 million

5 years, 90.5 million. That actually looks like a steal when projecting his past performance forward combined with him learning more of the oppositions tendencies.
